What is the procedure to register a Non-governmental organization (NGO)?

          • NGOs that have exceeded one year from its inauguration may be registered upon correct and relevant documents. 

 

Can anyone apply for Samurdhi Allowance newly?  

          • At present no new beneficiary is selected but in the near future the process will be started again.

 

 What are the requirements to get the Elders’ allowance?

          • Must be above 70 years of age to the date of applying

          • Monthly family income must be less than Rs,3000

          • Either the wife or husband may apply

How to get a copy of a Birth/Marriage or Death certificate?

          • If you know the number and the date of the certificate-Rs.100

          • If you do not know the number and the date of the certificate-Rs.200

 

What is the procedure to register a Birth?

          • To register a normal birth, you may meet a registrar at your relevant division before exceeding first 3 months from the birth.

          • To register births exceeding first 3 months from the birth, you may meet the Additional District Registrar.

 

What is the procedure to make amendments to the birth certificate?

          • You may meet the District registrar with relevant documents.

 

THE DEPARTMENT OF PENSION

 

What is the procedure to apply for Widows’ and Orphans’ (W&OP) fund once the pensioner is passed away?

          • First of all, get the death certificate of the pensioner an d hold the pension.

          • Inform to the bank by a letter to send additional money back; if any.

          • Then produce following documents;

               - The original copy of the pensioner’s death certificate

               - The original copy of the widow’s birth certificate.

               - A copy of the bank account pass book of the widow.

               - A copy of the national identity card of the widow.

               - A copy of the W&OP card or the number.

               - A color photograph certified by the Grama Niladari.

               - Copies of all above documents must be certified by the Grama Niladari.

 

Reasons to hold the pension

          • Not issuing the living certificate for the relevant year.

          • Once the pensioner comes, the living certificate will be issued and it has to be get certified from the Grama Niladari.

          • Once the living certificate is handed over, the pension will be updated. 

 

Why the pension is not paid once the widow is also passed away?

  • According to the W&OP act, there are no legal provisions to pay for rightful persons.
